When
Russell Brunson started his program this last week I told him he had to commit to a consequence if he failed to reach his goals....
He said he would write out a check for $25k and donate it to a charity he HATES if he failed at the program...
.... and I said, NO WAY!! You have to pick something more painful!!
Russell has enough money that a check for $25k or even $100K wouldn't be enough motivation for him to stick to the lifting and eating plan.... it's just not painful enough for him!!!
So in the end he came up with pretty much the same thing as my wife, Sunny....
He said, "I will do a bodybuilding show with a stage, a speedo, a crazy spray tan, the whole thing." I knew right then that Russell was not going to fail because he knew I was going to hold him accountable to that, and believe me..... he does NOT want to do a bodybuilding show in this lifetime! Now THAT is painful enough for him to stick to his goals!
What about the Goat Farmer from Wisconsin (who also happens to be a Master Copywriter and literally sells his copywriting books for $1000+)??
Well... let's just say we came up with something SUPER painful for him as well! We talked about writing a check to a charity he hates, but again, the Goat Farmer just has too much money for that to affect him at a deep level.....
We talked about a bodybuilding competition.... but that just didn't seem painful enough for him.
And then.... the thought hit me like a bolt of lightning, and I KNEW this would be the ONE THING that would stop him from failing at his Big & Ripped Goals....
If the Goat Farmer fails, he has to kill one of his beloved goats! AND NOT ONLY KILL IT, BUT EAT IT!
His mouth dropped open and his eyes nearly popped out of his head. He was visually shaken.... he bowed his head and thought about it for a few seconds because all of the sudden his consequence for failing had taken a pretty serious turn. Then he lifted up his eyes and said in that Wisconsin twang of his, "Okay. Done. If I fail at this program, I will have to kill and eat one of my goats."
... and we shook on it.
As crazy as that sounds, the Goat Farmer LOVES his goats, and the consequence is painful enough for him to stick to his goals!!!
Tony Robbins has said if you want to change a habit, or accomplish something, it all comes to down to pain versus pleasure. THE PAIN has to outweigh the pleasure for it to STICK. For me, that also means ACCOUNTABILITY and making sure you follow up with that painful thing!
Sunny, Russell, the Goat Farmer... they all know I'm going to hold them accountable so they won't fail!
What's your painful consequence going to be? And who is going to hold you accountable?
I'm only interested in coaching FAST ACTION TAKERS WHO ARE SERIOUS ABOUT AVOIDING FAILURE! THOSE ARE THE PEOPLE I WANT TO WORK WITH AND HOLD ACCOUNTABLE!!! If that isn't you, PLEASE move along to something else! If you are serious enough to do a bodybuilding competition, or kill a goat.... you may be a good fit for getting Big & Ripped!
